Screaming Demons

Hello readers! Today we are talking with the artist Screaming Demons.Marcus is known for his original gothic and pin-up combination in his art style. By combining the two styles he has created images that have a growing fanship in the PSP community. Thank you so much for talking with us today.

How did you become a part of the PSP tube community?
The answer is quite simple, I was invited by 3 or 4 companies and I went with ‘SCRAPS AND THE CITY’ because they gave me the best deal.

 What does your artwork mean to you?
 A lot of my art is trashy and through away, but for me it does have a certain element of creativity and style. I love drawing, I go into a bit of a trance state when I’m working. I draw and paint very fast and when I moved over to digital painting and drawing, it allowed me to work even faster!

What inspires you in creating your artwork?
I’m mainly influenced by horror films, tattoo culture, 50s pinup art and all sorts of music.

 How long have you been selling psp tubes?
 Less than a year, I am new to this.

How do you create your artwork? Is it by hand
or digitally? What tools do you use in doing the artwork?
 I always start with a pencil sketch, I’ll probably use a photo from a magazine to get me started on a pose or because I like the lighting in a certain photo. I will then scan the sketch into photoshop and work from there. I use a Wacom Bamboo tablet for colouring and adding detail.

Aside from psp tubes, what else do you create
with your artwork?
 I do a lot of T-shirt designs, I guess most of my creative time is taken up with those, lots of rockabilly and vintage Zombie Girls. There’s a lot of B-Movie horror influence in those as well. I do portraits for private commissions these usually have a dark edge. People don’t come to me if they want an average happy portrait done, I offer something a little different.

 Does the psp community help artists become more well known
with getting their names and artwork more visible?
 As I mentioned earlier I’m fairly new to this, but I think it has brought my art to light to people that would not have otherwise seen it.

 What are some of your favorite art pieces which you have done and why?
 There’s a a painting I did called ‘Darkstar’ which has been turned into a tube. For me it was successful because she looks so very beautiful. Another would be my latest image which depicts the Bride of Frankenstein having been arrested getting her mugshot done. I just think it looks cool.

 Do you prefer tags with your art tubes animated or non animated? Or are both great to you?
I don’t have preference on that, I’m happy with either.

 Do you do commissions for taggers? How about ideas for tubes which taggers may have?
 Oh yes, I’m always open to commissions and ideas that could work as tubes or anything else for that matter.

 Is there anything which you don't allow to be done with your artwork? For example mirroring, animation, etc.
 No, I’m relaxed about it all, once you give your art up in this manner you’ve got to let go, I’m not happy about people using my art without permission, but that’s a different matter.

1) How did you become a part of the psp tube community?

Par le biais de la boutique Scraps And The City qui m'a demandé de faire partie de leurs artistes, je ne connaissais pas vraiment la communauté PSP avant et ne me rendait pas vraiment compte de l'ampleur... Depuis, mes créations sont beaucoup plus orientées vers la finalité PSP...

With the help of the Scraps and the City webshop who asked me to belong to their group of artists. I didn't really know the PSP community before and I didn't realize what it implied. Now my creations are more oriented toward PSP products.

2) What does your artwork mean to you?

J'aime beaucoup dessiner les courbes féminines, dans la Bande-dessinée, qui reste mon métier principal, je mets toujours en scène des héroïnes... il était donc naturel pour moi de m'orienter vers le Pin-Up Art !

I really enjoy drawing feminine curves in comic strips which is still my main activity. I always showcase heroines, so it was obvious for me to end up with Pin-up Art!

3) What inspires you in creating your artwork?

Je commence toujours mes dessins sans vraiment de sources inspiratrices, l'esquisse révélant l'orientation... à l'étape du crayonné, la construction devient plus lisible et à ce moment précis, la direction finale prend forme... j'habille, coiffe et maquille mes Pin-up au fur et à mesure, en quelque sorte !

I always start my drawings without any definitive idea, the scribble gives the orientation. With the sketching, the construction is becoming clearer and then I know the final direction. I put clothes, draw hairs and make up my pin-up girls as one goes along.

4) How long have you been selling psp tubes?

C'est récent, depuis 3 mois, j'ai commencé mon travail sur les Pin-Up en janvier 2011 et c'est l'illustration Pink Candy qui a été le vrai déclencheur ! Depuis, je navigue entre l'illustration et la BD... Mon travail sur les Pin-Up prenant une place de plus en plus importante dans mon emploi du temps !

Very recently, for three months. I started my work on pin-up girls in January 2011 and my drawing called "Pink Candy" was the trigger! From then, I split my time between illustration and comic strips. My work on pin-up girls is becoming more and more important on my schedule.

5) How do you create your artwork? Is it by hand

or digitally? What tools do you use in doing the artwork?

Après des années passées avec un crayon et un pinceau à la main, je suis tombé amoureux du logiciel Manga Studio qui me procure les mêmes sensations que sur papier... les esquisses, crayonnés, encrage et couleurs sont entièrement réalisées avec ce logiciel... je ne passe sous Photoshop que pour les quelques travaux de finition...

After years of using pens and brushes, I really felt in love with the Manga Studio application which gives me the same feeling as drawing on paper. Sketches, inking and colouring are entirely done with this software. I only use Photoshop for some finishing corrections.

6) Aside from psp tubes, what else do you create with your artwork?

J'ai également une boutique chez Speadshirt... sinon, je travaille en parallèle sur un projet de BD !

I've also a webshop on Speadshirt. Apart from that, I'm currently working on a comic strip project.

7) As you have developed your style and artwork, which artists have influenced you?

Mon style vient de mes 25 ans passés dans le monde de la BD... Avant de m'orienter vers le Toon, j'ai surtout travaillé sur des styles réalistes et notamment historiques et fantastiques, l'illustration m'a surtout permis d'aborder la couleur, dans la BD je ne faisais que le travail du Noir et Blanc ! Alain Aslan, Hajime Sorayama, Olivia de Berardinis ou encore Dean Yeagle sont mes références dans le monde de l'art des Pin-Up, j'aime également des auteurs comme Milo Manara, Paolo Eleuteuri Serpieri & Regis Loisel... Hermann Huppen et Boris Vallejo restant mes artistes de prédilection depuis ma plus tendre enfance !

My style is coming from my 25 years of experience into the comic strip world. Before the adoption of a toon style, my drawings were done in a realistic style on historical and fantasy subjects. Illustration allowed me to approach colouring because my comic strip work was done entirely in B&W. Alain Aslan, Hajime Sorayama, Olivia de Berardinis or even Dean Yeagle are my references concerning Pin-up Art. But I also enjoy authors like Milo Manara, Paolo Eleureri Serpieri and Regis Loisiel. Hermann Huppen and Boris Vallejo are still my preferred artists since my earliest childhood.

8) Does the psp community help artists become more well known

with getting their names and artwork more visible?

Oui, j'ai découvert une communauté qui m'a beaucoup aidé à faire connaitre mes Pin-oops à travers Deviant Art ou Facebook... Comme je le disais plus haut, tout va très vite depuis 3 mois et c'est en grande partie, grâce à tous les membres de cette communauté... J'avoue avoir même été un peu dépassé au début, car je ne me rendais pas vraiment compte de l'ampleur du PSP... C'est quelque chose qui m'est tombé dessus du jour au lendemain... depuis, j'apprends, lol !

Definitely. I've discovered a community who helped me a lot to promote my Pin-Oops on Deviant Art or Facebook. As I've told you earlier, things are going very fast for three months and this is mainly with the help of this community's members. I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed at the beginning because I didn't realize the importance of PSP... It happened so suddenly and I'm learning since! LOL!

9) What do you enjoy the most about being part of the psp community?

Pouvoir échanger directement avec des personnes qui aiment votre travail est merveilleux... J'oriente mes travaux vers toutes ces personnes, tout en gardant mon style, c'est très important pour moi, sinon, le plaisir de création se perdra avec le temps... même si tout va très vite actuellement, l'expérience de la BD m'a fait comprendre que tout peut s'écrouler aussi vite, il faut du temps pour poser ses jalons... j'ai tellement vu d'artistes éphémères que j'en suis devenu prudent par la force des choses !

The capacity to exchange with people who enjoy your work is a wonderful thing. I'm directing my works towards these people wishes while keeping my style. It's very important for me else the pleasure to create won't last. Even if things are going fast today, my experience in comic strip taught me that everything might stop very quickly and that a persisting success requires time. I've seen so many fleeting artists that I've become very cautious by necessity!
